How do I get involved in the 'Kick Off' program?

There are a variety of ways you can become involved with 'Kick Off'. We are always looking for those who can contribute to the quality & expansion of the program & service.

We are particularly keen to have ex-players 'on board'; those who have left the game and feel strongly about issues relating to depression, general mental health, drugs, alcohol and so on. Perhaps your own experiences during your playing days or following retirement have given you an insight into the lifestyle of the player and the associated 'stressors'. Becoming involved with our program & service gives you the opportunity to share your experiences with our current players; helping them with your 'first hand' knowledge.

Areas such as North Queensland, Central Queensland, Northern & Country New South Wales & other Rural & Remote centres, where Rugby League is played and where many of our young talent are 'spotted' for QRL, NSWRL & NRL Clubs, are in need of people who can provide information, education & support. Just as 'spotters'  & 'talent scouts' are vital in the identification of future 'stars', so are those who are able to oversee the young player's development & growth, so that they may be adequately prepared for what possibly lies ahead of them.

Our newsletters, brochures & other informational material are always in need of fresh, new ideas, articles, accounts of personal expeeriences etc. We encourage those who feel they have something to offer in this area to contact us or submit their material.

We are also keen for those involved in Rugby League throughout the country to be mindful of any problems players may be experiencing. Family, friends, team mates, coaches, club officials, referees etc. are vital in the early identification of issues of concern in relation to depression and risk taking behaviours. It is essential that these concerns be followed up. We encourage you to make contact with our team should you be sufficiently concerned about the welfare of an individual involved in the game. You may also contact a GP, club doctor, psychologist, lifeline or hospital mental health team if you choose. No matter which option, if there is a serious concern, please speak with someone who can help. In this way you are very much actively involved with the purpose & functions of the 'Kick Off' team.

Volunteers & Counsellors

We at 'Kick Off' are constantly looking for volunteers and counsellors to aid in the 24 hour contact, information help line service. We are also looking for people with I.T. knowledge & experience to donate a portion of their time in the maintenance of our computer system and website & the storing & updating of data.

There are many other helpful roles that would aid us in delivering continuous & constantly improving mental health care for our friends in Rugby League. If you feel you have the skills, talents, experience or 'passion', even if they are not related to counselling and think they may be of benefit to our organisation, please contact us at join@kickoff.net.au .
